Six Haiku
It's twenty-seven.
Merganser flock not so large.
Many coots – one loon.
When they are feeding –
coots, loons and mergansers dive.
Mallards are butts up.
The red-winged blackbird –
sings conk-la-reee, conk-la-reee.
The woodpecker taps.
The morning unfolds.
I hear trill from Chase Spring –
and first croak from coot.
Pursued by large white bird –
a Great blue heron flys low –
over Wingra – to marsh.
Exhaling its warmth –
the Council Ring Spring nurtures –
early bloodroot blooms.
