Zigzag Goldenrod - Solidago flexicaulis
The Zigzag Goldenrod is a native that grows from 1 to 3 feet and blooms from August to September.
Its flowers are golden yellow with 3-5 petals. They are in ascending clusters 2 to 6 inches long at the top of the plant and also at the leaf axils (where the shoot grows out of the main stem) in the upper half of the plant.
The plant is called the "zigzag goldenrod" because the stem can zig and zag, changing direction at each node (leaf attachment point). But, the stem can also be straight.
