Authentic Wisconsin.  Kurtwood Smith

Kurtwood Smith - Actor; born Kurtwood Larson Smith on July 3, 1943 in New Lisbon, Wisconsin. We're not sure how long Smith lived in Wisconsin. Some articles report that he spent most of his childhood in New Lisbon (The New Lisbon High School lists Kurtwood Smith as a notable New Lisbonite); however, most articles have Smith growing up in the San Fernando Valley and graduating from Canoga Park High School of Canoga Park, California in 1961. Still, Smith was born in New Lisbon and spent some of his childhood in the area. Most notably, the reason Smith is an Authentic Wisconsinite, is for his endearing role as Red Forman in "That '70s Show" for eight seasons.

Smith's Red Forman was a conservative Navy combat veteran who served in both World War II and the Korean War. Although "That '70s Show" focuses mostly on lives of a group of six teenage friends living in Point Place, Wisconsin (a fictional suburb of Green Bay), Smith's perpetually disgruntled, ill-tempered character had many fans and some of the best "Red Quotes." Needless to say, Red Forman's hobbies: working with his power tools, drinking beer, watching television, reading the newspaper, hunting and fishing strike a cord in Wisconsin.

With almost 50 movies and in over 80 televison shows (cast, guest and voice) to his credit, Smith became a well known villain early in his film career playing Clarence Boddicker in RoboCop (1987), which starred another Wisconsinite, Peter Weller, who was born on June 24, 1947 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
