Steve Miller was born on born October 5, 1943 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Steve Miller - American guitarist, singer, and songwriter (Leader of The Steve Miller Band); born October 5, 1943 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He began his career in blues and blues rock and evolved to a more pop-oriented sound which, from the mid-1970s through the early 1980s, resulted in a series of highly popular singles and albums. Miller was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of their class of 2016.

Notably, Miller gave us lyrics that included the nonsense word, "pompatus", as in The Joker, where he sang, "Cause I speak of the pompatus of love".

In 1973, The Joker the title track reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The single also hit Number 1 on the UK Singles Chart in September 1990 after it was used for a television commercial.
