Hyssop - Agastache
I can not say for sure, but I beleve most of the photos on this page are of Purple Giant Hyssop even though the petals sometimes appear white or even yellow.
Any clarification woud be appeciated.
Purple (Figwort) giant Hyssop (Agastache scrophulariifolia) flower color ranges from lavender to pale pink and occasionally white. The slightly irregular flowers whorl around cylindrical spike.
Yellow (catnip giant hyssop) giant Hyssop (Agastache nepetoides) flower color ranges from green to yellow. It's conservation status is threatened. The slightly irregular flowers whorl around cylindrical spike.
Hyssop has a square-shaped stem with opposing, toothed leaves that are stalkless.
Purple (Figwort) giant Hyssop is a native perennial that grows 3'-5' tall.
Yellow giant Hyssop (catnip giant hyssop) is a perennial that grows 3'-5' tall.
Both Yellow giant Hyssop and Purple Giant Hyssop grow in Dane County where these plants were sighted. They both bloom August - September.
